Just like rust destroys strong metals, doubt can destroy faith. - Yash Gadade
The word 'Doubt' has always been humanity’s quiet companion from the start; Genesis- Where Eve's doubt on God lead us through torah and beyond to the philosophers of Athens & the thinkers on Reddit, one questions haven’t changed much — Is God real? Why believe what cannot be seen? In an age of science, data, and proof, faith often feels like an outdated technology, isn't it? something beautiful but incompatible with modern life.
As I completed Mathew, Luke and Mark, I am moving forward to John. John’s Gospel was not written for the blind believer, but the searcher. The one who does thru and fro between faith and reasoning. John doesn’t try to silence skepticism instead he illuminates it. How? keeping reading.
When Reason Meets Revelation: The Logic Behind Faith (POV John)
The start of John is:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.- John 1:1
It begins with meaning not with miracle.
“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” — John 20:29
If he wrote today, he might have said, “In the beginning was Meaning itself , the ultimate logic behind existence was existing before anything” confused? it's just my way. What I wanted to say is, faith doesn't cancel logic instead it completes it. How? Let me dig deeper.
Logic in simple word which means adept at explaining "how" where as Faith is oriented trust. Faith isn’t about winning a logic battle. It’s about trusting God even when things seem impossible because the books which are found (Gospels) are non contradicting & the term 'Non Contradiction' is one of the phenomena of logic. Faith provides the framework and logic gives it structure. They are not against instead one completes another.
Touch That Proved Faith: Thomas as the Modern Mind
Thomas also known as 'Doubting Thomas' because he denied resurrection of Jesus when he was told and that's something our modern minds do. They deny 'God' and live their lives in their own terms justifying the wrong doing by themselves.
“Unless I see the nail marks in His hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.” — John 20:25
He doesn't really reject the existence of 'God' but he needs evidence.
When Jesus appears, He doesn’t scold him or rebuke to Thomas instead he invites him:
“Put your finger here; see My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Stop doubting and believe.” — John 20:27
That moment isn’t about shaming doubt; it’s about showing that belief can be tackled, grounded, and experiential sometimes and Thomas, overwhelmed by the reality before him (evidence), responds with one of the most profound confessions in bible:
“My Lord and my God!” — John 20:28
Jesus meets Thomas in his need for proof, not in his fear of faith. As we say you just have to ask and God will give you. If He met the modern skeptic, He might do the same not demand worship, but invite wonder and take them to his path.
When Faith & Proof Collide
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” — John 14:27
I said it earlier and repeating again; John’s Gospel never asks for blind faith. It invites us to see signs evidence of divine logic in human form in the form of gospels. Modern skepticism asks, “Can we prove God?” John’s Jesus asks back, “Can you explain love, hope, or meaning — yet still live without them?” (John is more about Love)
Faith, then, is not the absence of evidence but the presence of deeper perception in human life. It’s the kind of knowing that transcends data & recognition of beauty and peace.
If Jesus Had an Instagram: How He’d Meet the Modern Skeptic?
Ofc, He wouldn’t post miracles on social media or argue theology in comment sections. He is Jesus why would he? Instead He would probably sit quietly with the scientist, the atheist, the overthinker, and say, “You’re closer than you think.” Even while demanding proofs or while coitizing him they think about God subconsciously. John’s Jesus would not cancel the skeptic; He’d call them by name. He’d see every doubt as a door, not a dead end. Think, will God abandon his child for any reason?
Conclusion
In short;
Sometimes, seeing isn’t believing.
Sometimes, believing is finally seeing.
